Easter dressing made easy

Easter is later this year, falling on 20 April, meaning that (fingers crossed) we’ll be seeing sunnier days and warmer weather.

Whether you’re planning on enjoying a family get-together, egg hunt, or attending church, there are plenty of Easter outfit ideas to choose from. Think spring florals, pastel hues and comfortable modern pieces that can transition from brunch to an afternoon of eating all the chocolate.

Consider light layers that can adapt to changing temperatures – a denim jacket worn over a floral dress or a pastel broderie T-shirt, teamed with wide leg cream jeans.

And since April showers are always a possibility, having a trench coat or water-resistant jacket on hand is a smart move.

What to wear on Easter Sunday

If you’re off to a service on Easter Sunday, remember that churches can be pretty chilly at this time of year. Layers are the perfect way to navigate this issue. A smart casual outfit of barrel-leg trousers and a pastel cardigan, worn over a blouse or simple T-shirt is perfect for church. If you do really want to dress up, then go for a patterned dress with a knitted jacket or blazer.

Alternatively, you may be hosting a meal at home for the family. If you’re the chef, choose natural fabrics that let you breathe – the only thing you want roasting here are the potatoes. A cotton floral dress will help you keep your cool, while still looking on point. If you’re not in the kitchen all day, you could opt for a jumpsuit or a pair of linen trousers with a classic white shirt.

And this is definitely a day for flats – a pair of pastel ballet pumps or even trainers will keep you looking and feeling good.

How to dress for Easter Brunch

A bank holiday brunch is a great way to spend time with friends and family over Easter, but what to wear? Wide-leg trousers give volume and dressed-up vibes without sacrificing comfort. Choose a soft pastel shade for a springtime feel. Team with a tucked-in top, to give balance and add either sandals or trainers, depending on how dressed-up you need to be. Wide-leg palazzo-style jeans are a more relaxed choice, perfect for a pub lunch.

If florals aren’t your thing, gingham is a great choice for Easter brunch. Go full-out in a gingham mini dress, teamed with buckled ballet flats, for a contemporary take on the traditional fabric. Or choose a gingham blouse and wear with a denim midi skirt for a more laidback approach. Finish it off with a pastel pink bag and maybe a little chocolate treat tucked inside, for the perfect Easter pick-me-up.
